Community Resources on Recent Federal Immigration Developments

The Trump administration has rolled out draconian measures to push out its mass deportation, detention, and disappearance agenda to further its crackdown on immigration that will have severe consequences for the United States. For any questions and concerns, we urge community members to speak to a trusted legal representative as soon as possible. 

Termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Cameroon and Afghanistan 

Last week, it was reported that the Trump administration will end temporary protected status (TPS) for people from Afghanistan and Cameroon. This will impact more than 10,000 individuals from both countries who escaped to the United States due to political and economic turmoil and are residing here lawfully. The termination of the TPS for Cameroon would end work authorization and status on June 7, 2025 and for Afghanistan on May 20, 2025. Please check this link for updates. 

Non-Citizen Immigration Registration Requirement

As of Friday, April 11, 2025, individuals age 14 and above who are not already registered, such as some undocumented individuals who have already been in the United States for more than 30 days are now required to register with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service. Individuals are required to provide fingerprints and a verifiable address, and carry proof of that registration. Those who fail to comply could face criminal penalties. Parole Revocation of CHNV Program (Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela)

The Trump administration announced the termination of the CHNV humanitarian parole program, impacting over 532,000 individuals. Those impacted under the program have been told they must leave the United States by April 24, 2025. On Monday, April 14, 2025, a U.S. District Judge granted emergency relief and suspended deportation warnings sent from the government, pending further court instructions.
