MASSIVE VICTORY! Federal Judge Extends 2020 Census Deadline to October 31

New York, NY-Late Thursday evening, a federal court ordered the Trump administration to abandon last-minute changes to the 2020 Census schedule and extend the time for counting for an additional month. The preliminary injunction, issued by U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh in the Northern District of California, requires the Census Bureau to keep trying to tally the country's residents through October 31. Additionally, Judge Koh barred officials from delivering completed data to the White House on December 31 rather than the original April 2021 delivery date.

In Blow to All New Yorkers, Federal Court Allows Trump’s Deportation of Nearly 300,000 TPS Holders to Go Forward

New York, NY-Today, the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals allowed the Trump administration to go forward with the deportation of nearly 300,000 of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders. The decision is a loss for TPS program beneficiaries nationwide, including the more than 26,000 TPS holders, who are from El Salvador, Sudan, Nicaragua, Haiti, among other countries, that reside in New York.

New York, NY—Today, a three-judge panel of the Southern District of New York ruled on New York Immigration Coalition V. Trump, a suit brought by the New York Immigration Coalition and partners. The ruling blocked the Trump administration's efforts to make an unprecedented change to the constitutionally mandated count of every person living in the country — leaving out unauthorized immigrants from the Census numbers that determine each state's share of seats in Congress.
